Frequently Asked Questions

1.  Do I have to live in Kirkwood to be in KCC?

Simply, no.  KCC is open to singers from all over the Metropolitan area.  We have had members from 54 schools and 37 zip codes including 3 counties and the State of Illinois.

2.  What do I do for the audition?

The audition process is simple.  One of our KCC artistic staff will ask you to sing "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" and "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star", match pitches and echo.

3.  How do I know if I made it in the Chorale?

You will receive an email within a month after your audition that will inform you if you have been accepted as a member.

4.  How often do we practice?

All choirs rehearse weekly on Wednesdays, at Robinson Elementary.  Cantando rehearses from 4:30 - 5:15PM and Concert Choir is from 5:20 - 6:40PM.  We practice from September to early March for Cantando, and through May for Concert Choir.

5.  How do I pay my tuition?

Once you join KCC, you will receive an email with information on tuition payment options from our Bookkeeper, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..  Tuition can be paid with cash, check or charge (MC, Visa, Discover).

6.  What does my tuition cover?

Tuition covers 67% of the total operating cost of KCC.  The tuition helps pay for staff, rent for practice facilities as well as concert venues, purchasing music, hiring instrumentalists and administrative costs such as paper, copying, postage.The costs not covered by tuition are covered through fundraising efforts, donations, and grants.

7.  What am I receiving for this tuition?

Many hours of high caliber vocal and choral instruction including ear training, reading music, blending in a group, breathing, tone quality, posture, enunciation, music interpretation, singing in harmony and performance skills.  You will also have the opportunity to perform with well-known guest conductors, soloists and instrumentalists and to perform in venues such as the Old Cathedral, Christ Church Cathedral, Fox Theater, and the Touhill Performing Arts Center.  You will receive training in music theory, music literature and foreign languages.  In addition, you may be able to tour with KCC; we have had numerous successful tours to Europe, Asia, and within the United States.  Interested members may audition for regional and national honor choirs.

8.  Is there any tuition assistance?

KCC offers partial scholarships to qualifying members.  Call (314) 803-2007 for the scholarship application.  There is also a 10% discount for member families that have multiple children in the Chorale. 

9.  Are there additional expenses?

Families purchase their children's KCC uniforms.  All audience members purchase tickets for our two annual public concerts.  Touring expenses are the responsibility of the family. 

10.  How many performances are there?

Each choir performs 3 concerts open to the public and a minimum of 2 outreach concerts (at nursing homes, hospitals, churches, etc.) Concert Choir has a performance schedule with additional commitments.

11.  What are parents expected to do?

Parents are responsible for getting their child to every rehearsal and performance on time, in proper uniform when required and to help their child take care of their voice.  We have a Parent Board that is instrumental in helping KCC excel!  KCC depends on parent and community volunteers to assist in many ways:  fundraising events, help with concerts, help with Greentree parade and festival in the fall, carpooling, etc.  There are many opportunities to support KCC.  We couldn't do it without you!
